Frozen park

June 28, 2015

Artist in Residence Julie Meyer, from Strasbourg France has a solo show at St Mary’s Art Center. Her series “Frozen Park” is photography of an abandoned fun park in East Berlin. Definitely collectable works, under $200 each!

ARTIST STATEMENT

Julie Meyer’s works in the areas of video, photography, installation and text demonstrate her exploration of our environment. Inspired by architectural essays, travelogues and science fiction novels, her artistic research investigates city fringes and landscape borders. She is interested in empty spaces in which the passage of inhabitants is nonetheless visible. She crosses suburban areas, no man’s lands and cities on the margins, collecting pictures, videos and sounds as raw material. Installation is a way of establishing a memory of her journeys. In 2011 - 2012, she crossed the Atlantic Ocean aboard a sailing boat. In spring 2013, she drove a rental car from New York to Los Angeles. Movement is always the method. Julie Meyer studies how landscape in movement is perceived, as well as the role of technology in our interpretation.
